nice price deal !!! art bleek is a name thats been doing the rounds for a few years now. the paris based producer never fails to live up to expectations whether it be deep minimal housers, downtempo jazzed-out loungers, broken beat or straight up hip hop, versatility is the mans game. hes recorded for labels such as rush hour & loungin and now for sick trumpet he brings californian vocalist charlie sputnik along to make the french connection. first up is all night, a mid-tempo nu-jazz shuffler that glides between broken beat and house with a killa groove, walkin bass lines, vocal hooks and scats a plenty from mr sputnik. support already from domu with plays on his 1xtra show zed bias takes the track and turns it into a new jersey house bumper with that added biaspheric twist weve all come to expect - big ! on the flip we have brothers & sisters, an electronic influenced houser with a bassline bigger than the eiffel tower and slicker than platini. with charlie sputnik again on vocals he provides the perfect narrative & melody to this dancefloor smasher ! the dub mix of this is something else…..anyone for dubstep electonica ? check

support from todd terje, lindstrom, ewan pearson, james murphy, mylo, nightmoves, toby tobias!! debut release from dundee’s sam annand, full of deep and dubby electronic beats, live drums and twisted jazz chords. the >birds of prey< ep is the first instalment in what is set to become an album project in the second half of 2008. from the dubbed out title track >birds of prey<, muted soundscapes of >sleeping bear lament<, crunchy off-beat drums on >into the cosmos< and ending with the driving little electro rhythm >packard<, the percussive energy in this music knocks you sideways and leaves you baited for the next rhythmic twist. a few demos of this ep have been circulating, and have caused quite a stir already. architeq’s live set is already a huge, talked about and memorable experience. sam moved to london a year ago so expect his

with >sweet murmur< the duo fabio delletorre and ennio colaci, aka minimono, delivers a funky track, that is carried by a simple deep chord. it spreads the typical oslo vibe. a hypnotic tool with percussive elements, not too obvious, no straining for effect, but deep and driving. so is the flip side of the record, with a track called >house in the house<. it s the first release of markus fix on the olso sublabel. with this pumping, energetic house tool, he definitely points out his love to this genre.

LOUDER ELVIS
12 Inch
29.04.08
already supported by pan-pot, sebo k, anja schneider, kiki, karotte... simplicity is the name of the game on both tracks here. on >louder elvis<, the two unleash pure deep-house bounce over ominous, detroit-inspired pads, clean-as-a-whistle bleeps laser their way through a fog of dubbed-out delay. the tunes flow suggests a live session, with tumbling chords following their own whims, but theres nothing haphazard about it. this ones all about the afterhours, head down and moving steadily into the light. a vocal sample kicks off >radio graceland< but dont expect any bloated rock n roll theatrics. instead, van dowski and agnès lay down a slowly rolling groove with a latin touch and even a little bit of reggaetón lurch. hand drums dapple the landscape with faded colors, keeping the mood subdued—at least, until the beat gathers steam and bright, syncopated chords splash about. groaning analog noises push the energy restlessly forward, driving dancers to wild abandon: the track is as effective as it is unconventional. what else would you expect from two of switzerlands most uncompromising crowdpleasers
WANNA FEEL EP
12 Inch
29.04.08
andrés first release for simple records >wanna feel< is all about the resonant, hypnotic bassline that steadily opens out to reveal more layers of harmony. little sounds and licks of melody dance around the bass whilst strings and stabs build the hook into one big crescendo. brooks melancholic strings, cleverly cut up the bassline and an eerie soundscape pushes the vibe of the original into a darker more sinister techno place….this is the lights out, heads down, touch me in the dark kind of groove that we love! finally >move< is an absorbing and patient deep house gem. plunging into a backdrop of prodded keys that subtly shift in shape and tone, a central synth melody climbs to euphoric climax before retiring back to waves of throbbing bass and rolling percussive loops

NOSPHERATU ECHOSPACE REMIX

23.04.08
welcome to the deepest nightmare of pulshar, welcome to nospheratus territory. an unforgettable trip into the darkest side of the bands soul, inspired by the cult movie nospheratu, this is one of the greatest dub and melancholic tracks of the year. a trippy bass and envolving melodies for an instant bloody dub joy. rod modell and steven hitchell take the controls on the b side and produce one of their best reworks yet under their echospace alias. they have reduced the original track to a deep and emotional piece. a majestic cavalcade into dub techno, a composition full of rich textures which remind of a cloudy day in detroit city, accompanied by a subtle conga that kicks off from the middle of nowhere and turns out really smooth, deep & dark. a little different than the material from their album on modern love, more reduced into the deepchord sound, a little more scaled back

for the new album, liars and prayers, thalia has expanded upon her touring band of the last few years of daniel coughlin (drums) and david curry (viola, trumpet) to fill out the sound with the bass and piano of winston braman (consonant, sherperdess, fuzzy) and mel lederman (victory at sea). liars and prayers is the masterwork of her thus far impressive career. her voice and songs have never been stronger and the full band and the recording by andrew schneider (unsane, cave in) allows her to combine the delicacy of the arrangements of her trio with the force that was her band come. the very moving body memory is a poignant example of this perfect synthesis.

BODY LANGUAGE

monotonix are a punk trio from tel aviv. they formed in november 2005, set up on the floor of the club with the audience, and the party began. but the party usually got too wild, the power got cut, the cops were called and monotonix were banned from playing again almost everywhere. before long, they were looking for good places to play outside of israel - and they were delighted to find that there are more rock and roll party places outside of israel than inside! today, monotonix are the hardest working rock band in the world. sure, lots of other bands work up a sweat, but monontonix are definitely the only band who puts in the kind of miles they do, and they rock rings around pretty much the rest of us too. these guys do two different shows in two different towns on the same day whenever they can manage it. but thats only the tip of the hard working iceberg. body language sounds almost like a monotonix show. the only thing you cant hear is the sound of your heart beating in your ears after having been chased around the room by a vocalist with his pants literally on fire, then getting dousedwith beer and dancing your ass off to the guitar riffage, then ending it all by carrying the drummer around on your shoulders while a few other guys hold his kit up so he can keep drumming. you dont end up quite as out of breath when listening body language, but you do get a ton of excitement anyway, courtesy of a killer guitar sound, precision power drumming and lusty lead vocals. they recorded body language with tim green (of the fucking champs) at louder studios in san francisco. it twists and grooves with all the fun and fervor of great rock and roll.
